Forum Event: KINGDOM HEARTS WEEK!

Me and one of the forum’s first Co-Administrators, Sora have come up with a magically delicious way to bring more fun to the forums, while still using our Kingdom Hearts roots.

We present to you, KINGDOM HEARTS WEEK!

(Banner made by RXS)

The events will start on Monday, January 5th, and will consist of the following events every day:

  • January 5 - KH Trivia Contest
  • January 6 - KH Hand Drawn Art Contest
  • January 7 - RPG Battles - Disney Characters Only
  • January 8 - KH Signature Worm
  • January 9 - RPG Battles - FF Characters Only
  • January 10 - KH Signature Contest
  • January 11 - RPG Free For All - ULTIMATE BATTLE SHOWDOWN
  • Here is an explanation for each of the events:

    1- KH Trivia Contest;
Basically, bringing the old-school Trivias that used to be held up here back to life for a whole day, they used to get a lot of recognition and were very popular back in the day.

    2- KH Drawn Art Contest;
Pretty much a competition similar to what would be held by Kaito that in the end could not turn out as possible; members draw their favorite pieces of art related to the Kingdom Hearts series and compete inside a traditional hand-made work contest.

    3- RPG Battles - Disney Characters Only;
Pretty much, the battles that go around in SSFW, only that members have to choose a character that belongs inside the Disney World. That is the only limit. You could choose from Dumbo to Herbie: Fully Loaded. Any character that pertains inside the Disney Fortress.

    4- KH Signature Worm;
Members can form groups of 3-4 to create Kingdom Hearts related worms. ALTHOUGH; judges will be the ones to form even groups. What does this mean? A designer who just is starting can be joining a team with one of the veteran designers, that actually count with experience. This one-day event consists of finishing a Kingdom Hearts-related Graphic Worm in a single day. There could be a Sign-Up thread for this event before the Kingdom Hearts Week starts along with other Sign-Up threads for other events of the week.

    5- RPG Battles - Final Fantasy Characters Only;
Same as the event in the 3rd day of this week, except members must choose a character from any of the MANY Final Fantasy games (even the spin-offs!), including a moogle.

    6- KH Signature Contest;
Simply a Signature Contest, as the title delivers. Contestants create their Kingdom Hearts-related signature in a matter of a day, post them up that same day for voting submission and the voting ends that same day at a convenient, fair hour.

    7- RPG Free For All - ULTIMATE BATTLE SHOWDOWN;
Disney, Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts stylized battles inside the RPG Section. Build Teams of four, three, two, one, be a loner, whatever you want to do. It can be five against one, six against two. It is free, the “ultimate showdown” is what the last day of the week will consist of. Anyone can sign up for it does not matter how bad they role-play. ANYBODY CAN JOIN!

To participate in these fun events, however, you must join our forums.

Now that we have upgraded, the prizes for winning these events will be even more interesting and unique then before. Do you want to miss the opportunity to get NEW AND UNIQUE PRIZES?! No!

    This past months news

Sorry for the lack of news recently, you guys, the site was having some problems.

But now we are back and ready to give you everything you missed in the paste 30-odd days!

The first thing that should be noted is the North American Release of Kingdom Hearts Re:Com.

The game will be going for $29.99 in the US and for 34.90 Worldwide

    ————————————————————–

    Now some UPCOMING GAME NEWS

The player selects “Traverse Town SPECIAL EDIT VERSION” from the main menu screen. Then they are given the options Load Game and. They select New Game and the opener begins, Jiminy Cricket is narrating.

Jiminy Cricket: “Two remain containing our travel records.”

Jiminy Cricket: “Inside the first book recording our journey, only one line is written.”

Upon the first page, ‘Thank Namine’ is all that is written.

    Jiminy Cricket: “A duty…”

Jiminy Cricket: “Was it carried out?”

‘We must return to free them from their torment’ is written.

Jiminy brings the journals to the King and they look over the sentence together.

King Mickey: “Trouble remembering that sentence…”

King Mickey: “There is only one qualified to solve this mystery!”

The footage then switches to Sora running across the bridge on Destiny Island. The screen goes black after that and text appears within a yellow border. It’s too fuzzy to read, but I think it’s probably updating the player on the storyline and what is going on in Coded. After that, Sora is shown being woken up by Pluto in a Traverse Town alleyway. Sora can hear King Mickey talking to him.

    Sora: “This place…”

King Mickey: “Sora, are you alright?”

Sora: “King, what is this place? What happened to me?”

King Mickey: “You seem to have landed somewhere. From there, what can you see?”

Sora: “Seems to be some sort of town…”

Sora: “Oh yeah! My island? What happened to my island?”

King Mickey: “Thanks to your actions, seems all the blocks have disappeared.”

Sora: “Is that so…? Seems things have settled for the time being.”

Sora: “But what about this place? This town isn’t familiar…”

Sora: “Is there a disaster happening here too?”

King Mickey: “Yes, seems like it. Sora, could you please check out the town?”

Sora: “Understood! I’ll go look at the state of the town.”

Sora then runs from the alleyway and into the 1st District of Traverse Town. Cid is to his right, standing in from of his shop.

Sora: “Is this the outside world?”

Sora: “I’ll go ask that person over there.”

    Sora: “Hello.”

Cid: “Hey there, haven’t seen your face around here.”

Sora: “I’m Sora! Nice to meet you.”

Cid: “I’m Cid. I’m the keeper of this shop.”

Cid: “So Sora, when you came here, you didn’t happen to see those guys around, did ya?”

    Sora: “Those guys?”

    Cid: “Three little brothers.”

Cid: “They said they went to check out the disaster going on in town and they haven’t returned.”

Sora: “The disaster going on in town?”

Cid: “Weird blocks been rapidly showing up. Even if you erase them, they’re not gone for long.”

    Sora: “Weird blocks huh?”

Sora: (Are they the same thing that appeared on my island?)

Sora: “Which way do I go to see them?”

Cid: “If you follow this street into the next district, you’ll find’em.”

Cid: “Alright! Think you could keep an eye out for those guys for me?”

Sora: “The three brothers right? What are their names?”

Cid: “The one wearing red is Huey, the one in blue is Dewey, and the one in green is Louie.”

Sora: “Huey, Dewey, and Louie, got it! I’ll try and find them!”

Cid: “Alright then. If there’s something you don’t understand, don’t hesitate to ask anyone in town.”

    Sora: “Understood! Alright, I’m off!”

The player runs Sora about, and then makes their way to the 2nd District. Before entering, the game asks ‘Go into District 2?’ with the ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ options. The player selects ‘Yes’ and enters the 2nd District where Sora says to himself:

Sora: “This is the 2nd District. Better look for those three kids.”

The player runs around the district and fighting some Heartless. When they get to the end of the area, they see Huey stuck on top of some blocks and surrounded by Heartless. Sora then goes to his aide.

    Sora: “!!”

    Huey: “Help me!”

    Sora: “It’s dangerous! Don’t move!”

After rescuing the duckling, Sora and Huey talk, but are interrupted by Heartless again.

Sora: “Are you OK? Um… You’re Huey, right?”

    Huey: “Yep, that’s right!”

Huey: “The three of us were looking for the cause of the weird blocks!”

Sora: “What about the other two?”

Huey: “We were separated while examining the blocks, but I said I was looking in the alleyway.”

Sora: “Is that so? Well, let’s look around for them.”

Huey: “I’ll go along with you!”

    Huey: “Uwa-!!”

    Sora: “It’s dangerous! Stay back!”

When the Large Body appears, Sora exclaims: “They still keep coming!?”

During the battle with the Large Body we see the player select the Highspeed Debug mode from the command menu. That’s where the screen went green and the music changed, we could see Sora being trailed by ‘himself’ because of the action. Afterwards, Sora receives a Prize from the enemy. The informative text says:

    ★Prize★

You can obtain Prizes from Heartless and Bug Blocks. HP Balls restore HP and Debug Balls restore the Debug Gauge. From a Prize Box, you can obtain items, fragments, etc. You can use the fragments to synthesis items in the Moogle Shop. (You can’t select potions from the Moogle Shop.)

Again Sora talks with Huey after the battle.

Sora: “This neighborhood has a ton of Heartless.”

Sora: “Since I went looking for them, Dewey and Louie probably returned to Cid’s shop.”

    Huey: “Yeah, I understand. Alright!”

Huey: “When I examined the blocks, I found this! Here!”

The screen then says: “You received a mysterious fragment.”

    Sora: “What is this?”

Huey: “I found it when I was checking out the blocks! It was shiny and pretty, so I picked it up!”

    Sora: “Ah… Um… Thank you.”

    Sora: (Hm… Is this… junk?)

Sora: “Ok! Back to looking around the alleyways!”

At this point the player chooses to exit from the command menu and turn off the game. From the menu it says ‘Return to the title screen?’ with the options ‘Yes’ and ‘No’, the player then selects ‘Yes’ and is prompted again. The screen says ‘The game will save up to this point so next time the game will start from here. Is that okay?’ with the options ‘Yes’ and ‘No’, the player then selects ‘Yes’ and finishes playing.

At the moment, the only Kingdom Hearts title among the three new releases mentioned on the Square Enix featured titles list of the Jump Festa website is Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. In the past, all three titles were featured, so this may seem slightly unusual. Since V-Jump, the host of Jump Festa, heavily promotes 358/2 Days over the other titles, it’s understandable why it’s the only one listed.

Does that mean the other titles won’t appear at the event? I wouldn’t be so sure. I think it’s very likely we’ll hear about them anyways, Square Enix rarely misses a chance to promote their titles and with demos at hand, this is a great opportunity for them.

    ————————————————————–

FAMITSU.COM - The boy who appeared in Kingdom Hearts II, Roxas. This time he is the main character of the action RPG, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. This title follows the daily life of Roxas during his time as a member of Organization XIII, at the same time revealing what the Organization was up to. In this article, we take a look at the mission and cut scenes of Halloween Town.

Xion: “Hey… How could I be the same as you two?”
On Destiny Island, Xion confides her troubles. She feels “different” than Axel and Roxas, and seems to be concerned about it. Her modest desire is to be with the two of them, but it appears that wish does not come true as of now.
    Xemnas: “The time is up.”
This is an event scene in the game. According to Xemnas, Member No.1 of the Organization, the group is fully prepared and ready to begin moving forward with their plans. This is the story that leads to Kingdom Hearts II.
Jack: At a very familiar place… Suddenly disappearing… Suddenly appearing…
Speaking of Halloween Town, it’s the Pumpkin King, Jack Skellington. Seems the three lovers of mischief Lock, Shock, and Barrel appear too.
Xigbar: “Hahaha! Saix sent me a really reliable guy!”
Top Screen: Information… Subdue the Dualblade*.Bottom Screen: Area- Suspended Bridge, Mission- Subdue the large scale Heartless.

Roxas is new to Organization XIII, so sometimes the other members are asked to support him on missions. But on the contrary, this time Roxas is the member doing the supporting.

*Dualblade is the name of the enemy Xigbar and Roxas are fighting in the last screenshot.

    CHARACTER PROFILES

    XION

She is introduced as member No.14 into Organization XIII. Similar to Roxas, she is one of the few wielders of the Keyblade. Probably since it’s a common feature between them, she seems to get along with Roxas well, and opportunities to hang out with both Roxas and Axel increase. Triggered by events during missions, she comes to gradually doubt her own existence.

    SECRET PROFILE - ROXAS

    Xemnas: “Do you desire significance?”

    KINGDOM HEARTS

The boy with no memories and no name

appeared in front of the haunted mansion

of the dusk city, Twilight Town.

Xemnas: “You are a new person.”

Appearing in front of that boy

was the one called Xemnas, the leader of Organization XIII.

He bestowed the name “Roxas” to the boy.

Roxas: “Again, a dream of that guy.”

    Then about 1 year later—

    KINGDOM HEARTS II

Roxas awakens inside his room in Twilight Town.

For the past few days, he’s been having mysterious dreams.

He is spending the remainder of his summer vacation

with his friends. Then mysterious events surrounding

Roxas begin to occur one after another.

Axel: “The wielder chosen by the Keyblade.”

Axel, a member of Organization XIII,

    appears before Roxas.

    He approaches him,

incessantly trying to make Roxas remember something,

but he is unable to remember anything.

    Roxas: “Am I feeling Sora…?”

    As such things continue,

Roxas comes to have doubt about his own existence.

Roxas: “What will happen to me after this?”

And so Roxas is lead to arrive at the mansion,

where he would come to know the truth about his existence…

    SECRET PROFILE - AXEL

Axel: “So… Are you already Marluxia’s puppet?”

    KINGDOM HEARTS

    CHAIN OF MEMORIES

    A member of Organization XIII,

Axel is the life of the Organization.

He often goes to Castle Oblivion,

a place controlled by the Organization.

There he comes to meet the Keyblade

wielder Sora and his fellow companions.

    Axel: “If Sora disappears,

it could be dangerous for the Organization’s plans too.”

    The plans of Marluxia,

the person in charge of Castle Oblivion,

were thwarted by Sora and company.

Axel alone returns from Castle Oblivion

    to the other Organization members,

having harvested some kind of feelings from Sora.

Axel: “The wielder chosen by the Keyblade.”

    KINGDOM HEARTS II

Axel left Organization XIII to recapture his close friend Roxas,

so he entered into the virtual Twilight Town and

urged Roxas to recall his memories.

Axel: “I’ll meet you in the next life.”

However, the memories of Roxas won’t return,

and in the end Axel has received commands

from the Organization to erase Roxas.

    INTERVIEW WITH NOMURA

    KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep

How do you express “KH Birth by Sleep” in a word?

    Nomura: It’s Kingdom Hearts, evolved.

Yasue: It’s like a wonderful course made up of unexpected spices. To take in everything, from the unprecedented presentation, and every little bit of technology; it combines to complete a three star game.

Yoshimoto: It’s gonna be fun for the PSP.

—What does “KH Birth by Sleep” mean for you?

Nomura: Since the concept was “inevitable fate”, I wonder now if making this game was inevitable?

    Yasue:
Working on this thing was like competing in an Olympic event with a mix of an 100m race, an obstacle competition, a marathon, and wrestling! I ran my hardest at full speed, flew over the obstacles, used pinning techniques, made decisions, became annoyed, and after it all, I couldn’t even decide on a guts pose.

Yoshimoto: It was a mountain with invisible giants atop it. The climb is steep and difficult.

How is “KH Birth by Sleep” different than other games?

Nomura: There probably isn’t another portable game with the same volume and feeling of variety as this.

Yasue: Times three is a big characteristic! There is three main characters, three stories to follow, and three game systems that are directionally totally different from each other. That’s three times the excitement!

    Yoshimoto:
The scenarios of the three main characters is the main feature! The image display challenges the limits of the PSP, it’s gritty but gorgeous! And the Disney characters are surprisingly luxurious! This is KH Birth by Sleep, it’s what everyone is anticipating.

    KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days

How do you express “KH 358/2 Days” in a word?

Nomura: A painfully sad story and bold system.

Hasegawa: A Kingdom Hearts everyone can play together.

Yamamoto: Careful scenarios! Crisp action! A cool collection!

—What does “KH 358/2 Daysmean for you?

Nomura: Day after day of trial and error.

    Hasegawa:
    An encounter with new friends.

Yamamoto: Because of the new experiment with the multiplayer interaction, it was about keeping the action itself in mind and sustaining a conventional feeling on the DS hardware

How is “KH 358/2 Days” different than other games?

Nomura: I think with the stand alone story characteristics and the systematic nature of the multiplayer, the ways people will enjoy the game differ depending on the player.

Hasegawa: You can play as members of Organization XIII!

Yamamoto: In multiplayer mode, everyone will run about and play together, it’s a fresh idea!

    KINGDOM HEARTS coded & mobile

How do you express “KH coded” in a word?

Nomura: The components were carefully selected simply throughout it.

Tabata: Anyone can play it at their own pace, it’s the Kingdom Hearts game that continues and expands on the story people are looking forward to.

—What does “KH codedmean for you?

Nomura: Including the portal site, it’s a compilation of information on the mobile phone.

Tabata: The portal site becomes a compilation of know how through the mobile game.

How is “KH coded” different than other games?

Nomura: It’s the front for linking to the Mobile portal site. Also, I want to hype it up as a place for communication for fans of Kingdom Hearts.

Tabata: Linking not only through KH coded, but also through the Mobile portal site, all the players of Kingdom Hearts can come together in the Mobile world and enjoy it together.

    COMPLETE JUMP FESTA COVERAGE

    KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days

    - The Japanese release date for 358/2 Days has changed from February 2009 to Spring 2009.

    - A new illustration featuring Roxas, Axel, Xion, Riku, and Mickey was displayed.

    - Luxord and Demyx were introduced as playable in the multiplayer demo.

Arika-san from the Light in Chaos blog has played as both Luxord and Demyx in the 358/2 Days multiplayer demo. The first time she wanted to play as Demyx, but another player stole him. So she played as Luxord. He reportedly fights by scattering around cards which gives a wide attack range. He has high magic stats but low mobility, also doesn’t jump very high. She came in first.

When she played as Demyx, she reported that he had strong magic attacks and that using skills like Thunder was very helpful. But since the number of spells a person can cast is limited, she had to be cautious not to run out. When Demyx was idle and not fighting, he sings and dances with his sitar. She regrets that she could not here his voice during the demo.

    - The single player missions were the same as at Tokyo Game Show 2008.

    1. Axel in Twilight Town
    2. Xaldin in Beast’s Castle
    3. Xigbar in Halloween Town

    - 358/2 Days was the only Kingdom Hearts game to feature a new trailer.

358/2 Days Trailer Impressions from The Light in Chaos & FF&KH Online:BGM: Passion -after the battle-

    Voiced scenes.

Xion: Who the heck am I…?

    Destiny Island.

Roxas is standing on the shore and picks up a shell.

    Roxas: Xion…

    Twilight Town.

In the pod room Sora sleeps.

Namine: If it’s connected to another memory, surely she can’t endure it

    Diz: She?

    Beast’s Castle.

It looks like it immediately follows the DKS3713 scene.

Riku defeats Xion, she is fallen over, the keyblade that left her hand disappears.

Xion: You say this keyblade is a fake…? Don’t say such a selfish thing!

Xion moves to grab the abandoned keyblade.

    Xion: Hyaa–!

Riku avoids her attack and deals a blow to her side.

    Xion: Augh…

Riku: Here’s some friendly advice, get away from those guy’s base immediately

Riku: If you do, you can be together with those two people

    Riku starts to walk away.

    Destiny Islands.

Riku and Xion are talking beside the paopu tree.

Xion: Do you hate me for taking away your friends?

    Riku: No… But I’m sad

Xion: I’m sorry, but I can’t disappear now

The King and Riku (as Ansem) appear in the forest.

Riku puts on the blindfold and regains his original appearance.

    Destiny Island.

Axel, Roxas, and Xion are together by the paopu tree.

    Xion: Do I not exist?

Axel: What are you going to do, Xion?

Xion: I… I want to be together with the two of you

    Roxas: Well, then come back

Xion: But… I can’t return as it is now

Xion: How can two people be the same?

    Twilight Town forest outskirts.

Xion is being detained by Axel.

Axel: Xion! … What are you doing?

Xion: I’m… I’m going back to where I belong

Axel: At first, I thought that was the best thing to do too…

Axel: But… I couldn’t accept that. There had to be something else

I assume these lines are in the same scene, but the bloggers weren’t specific.

Axel: Even if I become a dusk, it’s fine

Xion: At any rate, I’ll still be erased

    The World That Never Was.

Saix: Your worthless friendship or the annihilation of Roxas

Saix: Which one is more important to you?

    Castle Oblivion (Destiny Island world)

    Roxas: Huh?

Zexion: Surely you knew this would happen

Riku: Why would I know that!?

    Riku is standing behind Roxas.

It’s very similar to the scene in Chain of memories, except that Roxas is present.

    Twilight Town, the clocktower.

Axel and Roxas are waiting for Xion.

Axel plops himself down beside Roxas.

    Roxas: Still… It’s getting late

After Roxas mutters, Axel stands up.

    Twilight Town, open tram space.

Roxas is on his own and Xion turns the keyblade on him, then Axel enters.

    Roxas: Wait!

Xion points the keyblade toward him.

    Roxas: !!

As they are about to fight, a chakram flies out and Axel appears.

Then Axel and Xion begin fighting.

    Roxas: Cut it out!

    Xion: Hya–! Ha–!

She fights back against Axel, they don’t hear Roxas’s voice at all.

By the way, Axel fights in complete silence.

    Roxas looks to the sky.

    Roxas: Stop it!

Also, Roxas does not have his keyblade.

    -Battle scenes-

    Twilight Town clocktower.

Roxas and Xion are there, she is wearing her hood.

    Xion stands up.

    Roxas: Huh?

Xion removes her hood, Roxas looks surprised.

Xion: My power, it’s going to be fulfilled very soon. Like a vessel overflowing with water, now my memory is full of memories of Roxas. To Roxas… How do I appear now?

The title appears, coming this Spring.

Not voiced scenes, not in any particular order.Beast’s Castle.

Xaldin (So it seems): The master turned into a monster?

(It’s probably part of the mission in Beast’s Castle)

    Xion finds a seashell.

Xion: This, it was put here for me.

She puts the shell to her ear.

Xion: I can hear it… Yeah, I can hear the sound of the waves.

    Twilight Town.

Roxas: Xion can use the keyblade too.

    White Room.

    Axel: There’s nothing here.

Xion: Lies! My secret is here

    Blogger forgot where.

Roxas: If Xion and I are special Nobodies, (blogger forgot)

    Blogger forgot where.

    Roxas and Xemnas are talking.

    Roxas: What’s wrong with ___?*

Xemnas: It’s an important Organization member, I’m going to take a rest now.

The World That Never Was Castle.

Xion is alone in a room and appears to be crying on a bed.

Xion is sitting with her knee pulled up.

    Xion: What should I do…Riku?

    Blogger forgot where.

Axel (So it seems): Recently it’s Xion who has escaped.

    Olympus Coliseum, Xigbar and Roxas.

Xigbar: We’re also entering the tournament

    Roxas: Huh? I’m entering too!?

    Continuance of the Coliseum conversation?

Roxas: Demyx! What are you doing here?

Demyx: What, I’m here to help you out! Anyways, that Xigbar guy sure is strong!

Xemnas and Saix stand over Roxas sleeping in a bed.

Saix: As I thought it seems to be the influence of Namine

    Xemnas: Is he waking up?

    Saix: ???

Xemnas: Axel, Xion, Roxas. They have shifted again (???)

Roxas gathered up seashells and brought them to Xion.

The World That Never Was Castle.

    Xion: I… It wasn’t me?

    Xion looks downward in sadness.

    Twilight Town.

Roxas: Xion uses the keyblade too.

    Xion: Roxas too?

    Twilight Town white room.

    Namine and Xion are together.

    Xion: What should I do?

A mission where Xion is wearing her hood is shown.

The first appearance of multiplayer mode with Demyx and Luxord is also shown.

    Olympus Coliseum.

As Roxas fights on his own, Sora seems to bear the damage he takes too.

On the top screen Roxas fighting Heartless and this HP display is shown.

On the bottom screen, Sora is shown without the HP display and Heartless.

In the battle scene where Roxas and Sora overlap, there

was a Shadow heartless with Sora. However, since his movements don’t match Roxas’s exactly the same, so he often misses the Shadow.

??? (Facing Roxas): Xion is different from you

Roxas: The members in Castle Oblivion are being annihilated–

    Axel: It’s because I’m strong

    New Days Scans From Famitsu

Gamekyo.com has released some scans from the Chinese issue of Famitsu. Check them out!
    novfam01.jpgnovfam02.jpgnovfam03.jpgnovfam031.jpgnovfam04.jpgnovfam05.jpg

    SCENE ONE

Only the three Roxas, Axel, and Xion are together having a conversation on Destiny Island beside the Paopu tree. Xion seems to be confiding her troubles to Axel and Roxas. Somehow she seems different then the two of them…?

“In sadness, eagerly wishing for genuine feelings.”

“The two of them merely watch Xion.”

    “Roxas cannot find the words.”

Xion: “Hey… How could I be the same as you two?”
Xion: “I want to be together with you two.”
Xion: “But I can’t return how it is now.”

    SCENE TWO

Xion is troubled and struggling to find an answer, what could save her…? Like Roxas, Xion does not remember her former self. While being held up by Riku, Xion asks about her own existence.

Xion: “Who the heck am I?”

    SCENE THREE

Roxas has an encounter with Riku on Destiny Island! Roxas seems surprised by something and Riku wearing his outfit from KH1 instead of the black coat stands behind him. At this point of time, these two couldn’t possibly have met and yet…?

    TWILIGHT TOWN

Axel talks about his friendship with Roxas, and then about Roxas and Xion’s standing in the Organization. Roxas and Xion are said to be special, but does the reason for it concern their “weapon”?

Axel: “Friends eating ice cream together, talking about trivial things and laughing.”
Axel: “You guys are special among Nobodies, but after all I think it’s because of those things.”

    THE WORLD THAT NEVER WAS

The commander of the Organization Xemnas is fully prepared and ready to begin. Also, in the screenshot it appears Roxas has collapsed…?

    Xemnas: “The time is up.”
Xemnas: “We must not forget why we Nobodies are gathering.”

Roxas: “But there was something being said at Castle Oblivion…”

Saix: “As I thought it seems to be the influence of Namine.”

    TWILIGHT TOWN - CLOCKTOWER

Xion talks to Roxas with sea salt ice cream in one hand. Is Xion confiding her troubles here?

Xion: “Therefore if I can’t use the keyblade, I… I’ll become useless.”

Roxas: “If Axel returns, then the three of us can eat ice cream together.”

    HALLOWEEN TOWN

Roxas will travel to various worlds on missions for Organization XIII. It appears that Halloween Town will be full of difficult gimmicks, using your head to solve them will be necessary. Also, if you present a bone to Zero the ghost dog, you’ll be informed where the gimmicks are at.

    “Solving a gimmick!”

Roxas: (This lantern appears to be lit.”)

    XIGBAR MISSION

Other members of the Organization are assigned to support the newbie Roxas on missions. But on the contrary, this time Roxas is helping out. In Hallowwen Town he will be helping out Xigbar. While Roxas is good at close range fighting, Xigbar is good at long distance attacking. Balancing each other, they make a good team. Not just making fun of Roxas, Xigbar also gives him advice.

“Xigbar is a joker, but his other side is…”

Xigbar: “Hahaha! Saix sent me a really reliable guy!”
Xigbar: “Jumping to a misleading conclusion is dangerous. You’ll learn from experience.”

    JACK IN HALLOWEEN TOWN

In Halloween Town, it’s residents Jack Skellington as well as Lock, Shock, and Barrel appear. Though spying seems to become the standard for Roxas, there is a scene where they meet. Also, Pete who acted covertly in KH2 appears. It seems Roxas has fallen victim to one of Lock, Shock, and Barrel’s pranks so there is a fighting scenario with them. During the fight there are pumpkin bombs that display a number. When the number drops to 0, it explodes and inflicts damage.

Jack: “Good job Zero! I hid it here, my device of fear!”

Jack: “Under the black coat there are innumerable amounts of bombs!”

Pete: “My plan with the Heartless is already complete!”

Roxas: “Dammit… Why are you bothering me?”

    Kingdom Hearts Coded Has Launched!!!

The first of the three newest installments to to Kingdom Hearts series is now available…in Japan, at least.

Thanks to Akira-san at The Light In Chaos for this first-hand report and thanks to KH Insider for the translation

I’ve begun to play Coded, even though there are only 2 features to check out right now. I didn’t have a lot of time today, so I only played the Olympus Coliseum feature. Oh and by the way, the phone contained an email decorated with a Kingdom Hearts Mobile motif which contained information about the Coded preinstallation. I am looking forward to Mobile very much!

    OLYMPUS COLISEUM

Sora meets with Hercules and Phil. At first there is no one around, but then after wandering a bit, Phil appears. However he shows up in a hurried tone saying, “Help me out!” As you’d expect, there are Heartless needing to be dealt with.

This time it seems like the battles are consecutive mixed with a tutorial on how to play the game. (Though I didn’t see where they explained how to use Jump.) Feels like the Heartless steadily increased in a pattern like this as you defeat them: 1>3>5>(for a moment it went back to 1)>8>100… I forgot to mention here that the 9 key or pressing a directional button twice does Dodge Roll and the 6 key does Guard.

By the way, when it returned to 1, I was fighting against a Large Body, therefore attacking it from the front was useless. Since there are no Magic attacks, I had to attack it from the back. Also, since the Large Body summoned the bug blocks, breaking them and avoiding attacks was necessary in order to not be hindered by them. At first a few would appear at the same time, making it so you had to Jump more often to move about.

When enemies are defeated, they drop debug prizes which are rarely HP balls, and when you break the bug blocks, HP balls are dropped. 100 points were earned after battling and then there was an ending event scene.

At first I forgot what buttons to press, so I only could Guard. (I’m a fool ;^;) So I started it once again from the beginning and it was easier to clear after that. As usual, the Large Body still repel attacks, lol.

The sound quality wasn’t the best, but for the time being it looks better than Chain of Memories on the Gameboy Advance. By the way, there were battle voices. Sora said things like “Ha!” and “Take that!” during the battles, and then things like “Ugh!” and “Ahh!” when he took damage.

But, sometimes the movement became slow and would stop suddenly, which worries me. ;^; Oh the capacity… I feel there is no hope for it.

Overall it took about 20 minutes to do. (And then afterward write this guide.) I think I’ll practice here until I am used to it.

After the battle in the event scene Hercules comes out, then at that time Sora says something about bringing a “certain thing.” (It has to do with the previous Kingdom Hearts.) I try looking for it, thinking “Is it that? It’s not that! Was it dropped?!” :D

Well, then after that Phil seems to have discovered it… Seems to be that the flavor is “salty, but sweet.” It’s other meaning makes me smile. :D …Then at once Hercules disappeared! In every sense! :D

Since the Traverse Town feature is there too, I think I’ll give it a try tomorrow.

Dengeki Article On KH Demos Impressions [Translated]

Dengeki Online posted an article on their impressions on the three upcoming Kingdom Hearts games. We hope you enjoy it.
Credit for the translations goes to bittermeats from KH Insider

    DENGEKI ARTICLE ON PANASONIC EVENT

DENGEKI ONLINE - On November 12th, an event introducing new mobile phone products was held at Panasonic in Tokyo. Since there were demos of the three new Kingdom Hearts titles exhibited at the event, here are the impression reports.

    dengeki2.jpgdengeki1.jpg

The three RPG titles were exhibited at the event: Kingdom Hearts Coded beginning service in spring 2009, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (Three Five Eight Over Two Days) releasing February 2009 for the Nintendo DS, and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep releasing 2009 for PSP. Out of them, Coded will come preinstalled on the “docomo PRIME series P-01A” (below, P-01A) releasing this November from NTT DoCoMo.

On the preinstallation, you can begin by playing the short story mainly involving battles “Olympus Coliseum -Side Episode-” where Hercules appears. This seems to be an original episode that won’t be available for download after the service starts and the main chapters become available. By upgrading it more, you can enjoy various features of the original story in the “Traverse Town-Special Edit Version-” feature where you can enjoy cut scenes from the series.

This time I played with the “Traverse Town -Special Edit Version-” feature, as well as 358/2 Days and Birth by Sleep. For those people looking forward to the releases and are a little worried about the titles, please by all means check out my demo impressions.

    3.jpg

This title is compatible with the Docomo PRIME Series P-01A and other related systems. Also, the series portal site with Kingdom Hearts Mobile is planned to open before the 2008 year ends. The service plan is to distribute one new episode every month after the service begins.

The story surrounds a page written in Jiminy’s Journal, the place where Jiminy Cricket wrote down the records of all their travels. It unfolds as the journal is converted into data and the traced worlds are exhibited as stages. Awakening in this data world, a Sora made up of data becomes the main character as a new journey begins.

Since you hold the wide open style mobile horizontally to play, you use the arrow keys located on the left side to move and can perform actions using the 6, 9, 0, and * keys on the right side. Because I’m the kinda person who generally plays only RPG and SLG on the mobile phone, I honestly thought considering the number of buttons, “Kingdom Hearts is an action packed RPG, but can you play it properly with this kind of complicatedness?”

    dengeki3.jpg
I photographed the P-01A pamphlet. This is how the person playing the game holds the mobile phone. The letters are displayed correctly when held horizontally because of the new 2WAY key the P-01A features.

In conclusion, I’m sorry. Since as I explained you move using your left hand and operate the button commands using your right hand, it’s very much like playing with a game controller. The game itself has a very conventional Kingdom Hearts feel to it too. Basically, in spite of relentlessly using “Attack” and “Examine” with the 0 key, it advances at a good tempo. Of course the map has various gimmicks prepared. With action oriented puzzles that make full use of the jump function with the * key, the element of puzzle solving is good as well.

Additionally, the 6 key does the Guard function and the 9 key does the Dodge Roll function. Besides, if you make full use of the jump function, you can enjoy a feature not conventional to most mobile phone RPGs. Furthermore, when you are continually attacking an enemy, an “!” will appear over their heads. Then directional arrows appear at the bottom of the screen and you input the the correct keys according to time and sequence. A new element of acquiring items is introduced; if you do the commands correctly and consecutively, depending on the number of combos you achieve, you get items.

Moreover since the P-01A’s 3.1 inch wide screen has adopted VGA liquid crystal technology, it truly has the finest digital grain display screens of any other gaming mobile phone. The images below show this title making use of those capabilities.

    5.jpg6.jpg
These kinds of graphics were not really thought about for mobile phone games previously. In closing, general RPG consumers who play it will find the game worthwhile.

I felt the impression I had after playing it was along the lines of: “Already there is hardly any difference between mobile phone games and regular games.” Still, it is not on a game console and I felt dissatisfaction waiting for the loading and what not, but overall the result is a genuine Kingdom Hearts title.

    7.jpg

Along with the 14th member of Organization XIII who didn’t appear in Kingdom Hearts II, this title draws around the times of Roxas in Organization XIII. The main character is Roxas, and in this demo version you could choose from the stories of him being accompanied by Axel, by Xaldin, or by Xigbar. Because of the impressive scene where the characters sit on top of the clock tower staring at the stetting sun together as shown on the official website, I chose to go along with Axel. Here’s the report.

As for the story, a scene is shown displaying that Roxas is still a beginner in this mission, and Axel is coming along to help protect him. The controls go like: Decide/Examine with the A button, Jump with B, change menu options with X, use Reflect Guard with Y, and Dodge Roll with the control pad. After all, you basically press the A button to play, it’s the same user friendly specifications of a Kingdom Hearts game.

During the battles, I approached the target enemies and selected Attack, Attack, Attack… the basic combos. For difficult enemies, I’d select Magic and use attacks like Fire, Blizzard, and Thunder and then recover HP from a Potion in the Item command. Because the number of times you can use a Magic attack is limited, you have to use them carefully. By the time I got to the last boss round, I was out of Magic attacks…

By the way, the Magic and Item commands can be registered in the short cut menu. Just hold L and press your option (A, B, X, or Y) to exercise it.

    9.jpg8.jpg
Axel is a lot like an older brother Roxas can rely on, not just in the cutscenes but also in battle. After fighting the boss the two chat a little, saying compliments like “That was a clever trick back there!”; such comments warm my heart.

In addition, the map is full of tricks, so you must use jump as well as your head to proceed through the action and puzzle oriented levels. So even though it’s on the Nintendo DS, the game style has not changed. Coded is similar, the Kingdom Hearts qualities are recognizable everywhere. For people who’ve played the past series, it wouldn’t take more than 30 minutes to become familar with them.

But it’s also easy for a beginner to play the Kingdom Hearts style too. It’s only hard if you don’t make full use of the action techniques and Magic commands when fighting a boss enemy. I had to fight against a Guard Armor, an enemy with superior defense as its name implies. Even if I attack it, it leaves no open space for me to inflict damage. But if I use Reflect Guard when it attacks me, it’s posture breaks and leaves a chance for attack. Thats how I defeated it with the help of Axel. Thank you Axel! I would have been defeated if I had fought it alone!

After the boss battle, Axel says he’ll give Roxas an award and the two head to the top of the clock tower. The two of them sit eating ice cream and watching the sunset, and the feeling of heartwarming conversations is gone. The stories of Kingdom Hearts are warm but a little heartbreaking, and I think many people like that about it. But even within the limits of the demo version, I don’t feel those connotations were betrayed.

    10.jpg

At last, I played Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep the longest and here’s the report. This title draws on the furthest back in time of the series. Because it focuses on the viewpoints of 3 new main characters, each of their 3 scenarios can be thoroughly enjoyed. In the demo version I could play from two scenarios; the level playing as Ventus took place in Cinderella’s world and the level playing as Terra in Sleeping Beauty’s world.

This time all three of the titles I played had action packed battles, but personally I thought this title’s battle action was the most refreshing. The operations went like: Attack with the O button, Jump with X, Evade with Square or hold it to Guard, and Triangle to select a command from your deck. At a glance it seems to resemble the other Kingdom Hearts games.

Here are the interesting parts, an evasive action technique and the command deck. The command deck contains magic like Thundaga and Cure, as well as various special attacks that are set beforehand such as the Rush techniques. During battle, you use the directional control pad to switch to the attack (or possibly cure) you like and execute with the triangle button. Rather than consume MP, as the gauge accumulates over time, you can select different techniques again and again. To me, it has a sense of how Materia was used in Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII.

    11.jpg12.jpg

The other is the evasive action technique, it’s not Dodge Roll, its a high speed movement like a dash performed by executing a combo. I find its very important during battles. The dash like evasive action can also be used while jumping, by making full use of the space it creates a truly 3D battle system.

Furthermore, as for the characteristics of the battles, the Command Gauge increases as you fight and the Command Style changes. Normally you can just select Attack, but when the Command Style changes the kind of attack you inflict on an enemy changes too. The various last techniques called Finish will change as well. The Finish technique will end a combo with a sweepingly powerful attack. Therefore in the boss battles, you aim to deliver Finish attacks at the enemy’s weak spots. It’s difficult and very fun!

With an aggressive system that can unleash a lot of strong attacks and a high speed evasive technique, I was able to enjoy a high speed battle that was totally by any means inferior to other action games. But the characteristics of Kingdom Hearts came through as well with the beginner friendly combos that come from hitting one button over and over. Though the fun flashy action sequences appear to have evolved, people who think “at any rate the action is weak because its button mashing” so far may play it without changing their minds. Still, it’s slightly difficult to compare it to the other two titles being introduced.

    13.jpg

By the way, I wrote in the beginning that I was able to play as Ventus and as Terra. In this title the skills prepared are different for each character. Even using the regular attacks is different for each of them, as well as a new attack method being introduced called the Shoot Lock system. If you hold the L and R buttons for a fews seconds at the same time, you can target enemies. When the targets become red, you can unleash the attack. The character then fires at them using their unique skills.

In the demo version I played this time, Ventus would dash and attack the enemies with the keyblade while Terra would fire some sort of long distant bullet at the enemies. The Shoot Lock technique uses the Focus Gauge and points for it can be restored by picking up after an enemy is defeated.

I’ve introduced the various battle elements as I have experienced them, but there is in fact more. During a battle, there are times when you’ll be prompted to press a button (it’s quite severe). If you push the corresponding button, you are able to continue the succession of attacks and end it with a strong flashy blow. The same goes for the Finish technique, so staying aware during the battles is a good idea.

This has become very long, but I felt the greatest characteristic of this title was the range of action packed gameplay I experienced while playing it this time. Considering that all 3 characters have unique battle systems and scenarios, it’ll be very enjoyable. The release date for this one is still so far, but the more information comes out about it the more I think it will continue to exceed our expectations.
